What the job needed
A courtyard used most of the year, off a house with a pitched roof. A flat roof would have looked tacked on and trapped the heat under it.
What we built
A gable patio roof matched to the pitch of the house. The extra height lets hot air rise away from the lounge, and from the street it reads as part of the home rather than an addition.
